The Akiduki Pulse Box Posts Your Heart Beat Rate To Twitter, Lets Followers Know You’re Alive

It surely didn't escape anyone's attention Twitter is on track to becoming a mass phenomenon globally . The service is also growing nicely in Japan where it has been embraced by the geek community in particular ( Japanese is the only alternative language Twitter is available in until today ). And today a small group of those Japanese geeks, members of the so-called Koress Project, have announced the development of the Akiduki Pulse box, a device that automatically posts your heart rate to Twitter [JP]. Your Shape Wii fitness title packs in a body-scanning video camera, self doubt

Step aside, Project Natal , Ubisoft plans to bring camera-based body scanning to the Wii for the holidays, with its new Your Shape title. The "game" doesn't really sound like a pleasure, however: the USB camera scans your body and casts moral aspersions on your "shape." Once a 3D version of yourself is captured, you can glare at your TV through the tears and pick a particular segment of your body to work on [...more]

nesPod is a combo of two blasts from the past we can really dig

nesPod is a combo of two blasts from the past we can really dig

We see tons of casemods , but the NES holds a special place in our hearts and memories, so anything in the black-redish orange-gray combo catches our eye pretty easily. The nesPod -- the fine work of flickr user recycledgamer -- is made of a gutted NES controller and an iPod mini circa 2004-2005. [...more]

Indicator-6 Nixie clock is handsome, functional, Khruschev-approved

Hoping to relive the days of the Cold War -- you know, without the air raid drills? The handiwork of someone called Fred Niell (a character from a John le Carre' spy novel if we ever met one -- and we have), the ?????????-6 ("indicator-6") uses gas-filled Nixie tubes to display the time [...more]

Video: Onkyo Sotec C204 hands-on impressions

The wild and crazy guys over at Portable Monkey have just got their hands on one of Onkyo's 10.1-inch Sotec C204 netbooks and were cool enough to share thoughts, impressions, and a madcap YouTube video with all of us. Priced at around ?49,000 ($511), but seen going for less at various online tech purveyors, the gentleman's first impression of this device was, in a word, "great." Smaller and lighter than even the ASUS Eee PC S101, this bad boy seemed to perform as you'd expect an Atom N270-powered, 1GB, Windows XP Home machine should -- even if it does generate more noise than a little guy like this oughta. Curiosity piqued [...more]

Teen invents pen-sized pico projector while your kid’s busy beating up honor roll students

Teen invents pen-sized pico projector while your kid’s busy beating up honor roll students

Life can sure be confusing for a teenager in this fast-paced techno-world we live in. Without the proper guidance, a kid could find himself unplugging someone's life support , or going to jail for borrowing the neighbor's WiFi . Hell, if old man General Tommy Franks (retired) has his way you won't even be able to hang out behind the Safeway and enjoy a six pack with your fellow juvenile delinquents without being tracked via GPS! So it warms our hearts when we do hear of a youngster that's bucked the odds and done something constructive. For example, a 13-year-old named David Baker has received a patent for his Light Beam Delivery System, a pico projector that fits in a pen casing, and works by combining three RGB lasers with an optics assembly that creates a light ray that is then shined through a rotating disk to the screen. "When the light goes through the lenses," he explains, "they take each light pixel and shine it onto a screen or wall. The lenses run back and forth until it fills the screen. This process repeats 30 times per second to make it appear as though you're looking at a solid image and not a series of pixels, and you have the image projected." And where did he find the inspiration for all of this? "I was sitting in church thinking about how to make projectors easier to handle and I just thought of it," he says. Here's to daydreaming during mass! AMD shows off world’s first DirectX 11 GPU

AMD shows off world’s first DirectX 11 GPU

On a roll of late, aren't we AMD ? Just when you thought the fun was slowing over in Taiwan, in flies this: the world's first official DirectX 11 -friendly GPU demonstration. We also learned that DX 11 (and presumably, AMD cards to push it) will debut prior to the dawn of 2010, but outside of that, most everything else is being kept under wraps. Indeed, the demo was mostly to show that things were still on track and for the chip maker to assure us all that it will "deliver DirectX 11 first." Alright, AMD -- now you've something to prove. Full release is after the break.
